Custom Oval & Round White Plain Backlit Stretch Fabric Ceilings at a Spa Salon — Bahria Town, Islamabad
Newon designed, fabricated, and installed five custom white plain backlit stretch fabric ceiling lights — a composed cluster of oval and round luminous fields, each set within a 3×5 ft envelope (75 sq ft of ceiling plane in total) — at a spa salon in Bahria Town, Islamabad. Every field is carried on its own continuously curved perimeter track and backlit with 4W LED block modules (24V DC, 10 modules/string; two strings per field, ≈400W connected across the suite) in 3000K warm white, producing shadow-free, glare-free luminous ovals and discs above treatment rooms, the relaxation lounge, and the reception zone. The project proves Newon’s repeatable custom-geometry fabrication at scale: five different curved fields, one unified lighting language, installed in a working wellness business.

Client Brief: What a Spa Salon Needs From a Ceiling
In a spa, the ceiling is not background — clients spend long periods reclined, looking directly up. The salon’s requirements were exact:
- Zero glare at every viewing angle — no visible fixtures, no LED dots, no shadow bands above treatment beds
- Soft, warm ambience that supports relaxation rather than clinical brightness
- Custom oval and round shapes matching the salon’s curved interior design language, repeated across five zones
- Camera-friendly output for bridal, facial, and treatment content — the salon’s primary marketing channel
- Installation inside a working salon, phased so booking revenue was not lost
- A system serviceable later without cutting ceilings or replacing membranes
“In a spa, clients lie down and look straight up for an hour at a time. A backlit stretch membrane is the only ceiling system that delivers zero glare from every reclined viewing angle — no fixture, no dot, no shadow. When the design calls for five different curved fields, the discipline is in the track: each oval and round perimeter must be bent kink-free and tensioned independently, or the shapes will read as wobbles instead of curves.” — Newon Design & Technical Team
Design Decision: A Composition of Ovals and Rounds
Rather than one large luminous plane, the salon chose a rhythm of five discrete fields — ovals elongating the treatment rooms along the bed axis, rounds centring the reception and relaxation zones. This composition does three things: it zones the salon visually without walls; it keeps each membrane small enough for perfect drum-tight tension; and it lets each room be switched and dimmed independently, so a facial room can sit at a low warm glow while reception runs brighter for consultations. It is the same layered-lighting principle we describe in our guide to the secret to great room lighting, executed in curved geometry.

System Design and Load Calculation
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Module type | 4W LED block modules from Newon’s backlit module family |
| Strings | 2 per field × 5 fields = 10 strings (100 modules) |
| Total load | ≈400W connected, zoned by room at 24V DC (≈16.7A total) |
| Drivers | Smart LED power supplies sized with ≥20% headroom per zone |
| CCT | 3000K warm white for reclined comfort and skin-tone flattery |
| Diffusion rule | Module spacing set inside each field’s plenum depth so no dot prints through the white plain membrane |
| Edge rule | Outer module pass tightened near every curved track to prevent dark borders on ovals and rounds |
At ≈400W across five rooms, the suite consumes roughly 4 units per 10-hour salon day (≈PKR 175/day at PKR 43.83/kWh) — and per-room dimming cuts that further during quiet hours.
Engineering Five Curved Fields: Track, Frame, Tension
Curved stretch ceilings fail at the rim and the edge glow — multiplied five times in a cluster project. Newon’s build standard per field:
- Shape setting-out — oval axes and round diameters laser-marked per room; envelopes verified at 3×5 ft against the salon’s interior design drawings.
- Independent framing — each field framed so membrane tension never loads the salon’s finished ceiling; frames also carry the module rails and driver wiring.
- Kink-free curved track — ≈12.8 ft of continuously curved track per oval and ≈9.4 ft per round, bent without flats so tension stays uniform around each perimeter.
- Curved-pattern membrane cuts — harpoon edges welded to each oval and round geometry; no straight-edge seams inside any visible field.
- Tightened outer module pass — the ring of modules nearest each track sits closer than the inner field, eliminating the dark curved border that cheap shaped ceilings show.
Installation Sequence (Phased Around Salon Bookings)
- Survey and setting-out — five fields marked and levelled across reception, lounge, and treatment rooms; floors, beds, and product displays protected.
- Frame and track fixing — independent frames built; curved perimeter tracks mounted and levelled per shape.
- Module laying — 2 strings of 4W modules per field fixed at calculated spacing; wired into per-room 24V DC driver zones.
- Pre-membrane test — every string energised and inspected for dead modules, polarity, and edge uniformity before fabric, in all five rooms.
- Membrane tensioning — curved-cut white plain membranes heated and harpooned field by field for wrinkle-free, drum-tight ovals and rounds.
- Commissioning and handover — per-zone switching verified, edge and hotspot inspection from bed-level and standing viewpoints, site cleaned, staff briefed.
Testing and Commissioning
Each field was verified in the state that matters for a spa: viewed from reclined position. Inspectors checked dot-free diffusion, curved-edge uniformity, and CCT consistency across all five fields so the composition reads as one design intent from room to room. Driver zones were soak-tested on Bahria Town supply conditions before handover.
Energy, Maintenance and After-Sales
Per-room zoning means empty treatment rooms draw nothing while occupied rooms run at scene level. For service, each harpoon-edged membrane demounts from its curved track and re-tensions after module or wiring work — no patches, no visible seams, no lost booking days. Drivers are grouped at accessible points per room, and the wipe-clean membrane holds tension in steam- and humidity-prone salon environments; membrane safety specifications are covered in our guide to fire-retardant Barrisol stretch ceiling membranes.

Project FAQ
How many stretch fabric ceilings were installed at the spa salon?
Five custom fields — a composition of oval and round luminous ceilings, each set within a 3×5 ft envelope, installed across reception, relaxation, and treatment zones of a spa salon in Bahria Town, Islamabad.
What is the luminous area of each oval and round field?
An oval on 5×3 ft axes gives ≈11.8 sq ft of luminous membrane on ≈12.8 ft of curved track; a 3 ft round gives ≈7.1 sq ft on ≈9.4 ft of track. Every field is set within a 3×5 ft envelope, totalling 75 sq ft of ceiling plane across the five fixtures.
Why 3000K warm white in a spa salon?
Spa clients recline for long periods and look directly upward. 3000K warm white through a diffused membrane removes glare and harsh shadow at every viewing angle while flattering skin tones — critical for both relaxation and treatment-result photography.
Can oval and round stretch ceilings be combined in one business?
Yes. Each shape gets its own kink-free curved track, independent framing, and curved-cut membrane, while module grids and CCT are unified so the composition reads as one design. Rooms are zoned so each field switches and dims independently.
What does a shaped stretch fabric ceiling cost in Pakistan?
The white plain backlit system is listed at Rs 1,500 per square foot, with custom curved track, framing, and zoning added per project. Full pricing logic — types, prints, depth, and process — is in our stretch fabric ceiling price guide.
