Oval White Plain Stretch Fabric Ceiling with Tunable 2CCT Dimming at Sapphire, F-10 Islamabad-Pakistan

oval white plain backlit stretch fabric ceiling glowing over the Sapphire clothing store sales floor in F-10 Islamabad

Newon designed and installed an oval-shaped white plain backlit stretch fabric ceiling with 2CCT tunable-and-dimming LED modules (6W/m, 400W total connected load, RF remote control) at Sapphire’s F-10 Islamabad retail store — a fashion outlet where the ceiling must judge fabric colours accurately by day and shift to warm ambiance for evening shoppers. The oval field is carried on a continuously curved perimeter track with a site-set membrane pattern, and its ≈67 metres of dual-CCT module line (400W ÷ 6W/m) are zoned across multiple 24V DC drivers so the whole ellipse dims and tunes as one seamless plane.

Client Brief: What a Fashion Floor Demands From Light

A clothing brand’s ceiling is part of its merchandising system. Sapphire’s F-10 store required:

  • Colour-true illumination so fabric shades, prints and embroideries read accurately at the display tables and fitting zones
  • Scene flexibility — bright neutral light for trading hours, warmer dimmed light for evening footfall and festive collections
  • A soft, shadow-free luminous oval that echoes the store’s curved interior language instead of a grid of panels
  • Camera-friendly output for in-store content, lookbooks and customer photos — zero visible fixtures or hotspot dots
  • A system the staff can operate themselves, without touching switchboards

Design Decision: Oval Geometry + Tunable White

Two decisions define this ceiling. First, the oval: a continuous ellipse draws the eye around the sales floor and removes the “office grid” feel that panel ceilings impose on fashion retail. Second, tunable white (2CCT): rather than fixing one colour temperature, the ceiling carries dual-CCT modules so the store can tune from cool, shade-accurate white for daytime merchandising to warm, inviting white for evening ambiance, with full dimming between. This is exactly the circadian-style retail ceiling system described in Newon’s Circadian Stretch Ceiling Lighting range — and this project is its installed proof in Pakistan.

Module line400W ÷ 6W/m ≈ 67 metres laid in concentric oval passes

Zoning matters in tunable ceilings: every zone must tune and dim in perfect sync or the oval shows colour bands. Newon wired the passes into matched driver zones and verified sync during commissioning.

Engineering the Oval: Curved Track and Edge Uniformity

Curved stretch ceilings fail at two points — the perimeter and the edge glow. Newon’s approach:

  1. Continuously curved tension track set out from the site-set oval axes, bent without kinks so the membrane tension stays uniform around the full ellipse.
  2. Oval-pattern membrane cut with harpoon edge welded to the curved geometry — no straight-edge waste seams inside the visible field.
  3. Tightened module spacing near the curved edge, the zone where backlit ceilings typically show a dark border; the outer module pass runs closer to the track than the inner passes.
  4. Independent structural support for track and modules so fabric tension never loads the store’s finished ceiling.

Installation Sequence

  1. Survey and oval setting-out on the finished ceiling plane; axes, centre and track line marked and levelled.
  2. Structural preparation — support members fixed; curved perimeter track mounted and levelled around the full ellipse.
  3. Module laying — ≈67m of 2CCT modules fixed in concentric passes at calculated spacing, wired into matched 24V DC driver zones.
  4. Pre-membrane test — every zone energised; CCT sweep (warm → cool) and full dimming curve checked for banding, dead modules and sync errors before fabric.
  5. Membrane tensioning — white plain fabric heated and harpooned into the curved track for a wrinkle-free drum finish.
  6. Commissioning and handover — scene programming on the RF remote, staff training, site cleaned, client walkthrough.

Testing and Commissioning

The ceiling was verified across three states: full-cool, full-warm, and mid-dim — the states where poor tunable installations show colour separation between zones. Edge uniformity was inspected from floor level at both extremes, and a soak run confirmed driver stability on Islamabad supply conditions. Scene memory was tested through a full power cycle.

Energy, Maintenance and After-Sales

At 400W connected, the oval runs at roughly 4.8 units per 12-hour trading day (≈PKR 210/day at PKR 43.83/kWh) — and dimming during low-footfall hours cuts that further, something a fixed-output panel grid cannot do. For service, the harpoon-edged membrane demounts and re-tensions after module or wiring work, with no patches or visible seams. Drivers are grouped at an accessible point, and the wipe-clean membrane holds tension in retail interiors; for membrane safety specifications see our guide to fire-retardant Barrisol stretch ceiling membranes.

Project FAQ

What is a 2CCT tunable stretch fabric ceiling?

A backlit stretch ceiling whose LED modules carry two colour temperatures (warm + cool white) on one board, so the whole plane can be tuned between them and dimmed — giving a clothing store shade-accurate light by day and warm ambiance by evening from a single ceiling.

How much power does an oval tunable ceiling like this use?

This installation runs 400W total at 6W/m (≈67m of module line) — about 4.8 units per 12-hour trading day, with dimming scenes reducing consumption during quiet hours.

Can stretch fabric follow a true oval or curve?

Yes. A continuously curved perimeter track and an oval-cut harpoon membrane produce a clean ellipse; the critical details are kink-free track bending and tighter module spacing near the curved edge to prevent a dark border.

How is the ceiling controlled day to day?

By RF remote with CCT tuning, dimming and scene memory — staff select trading, evening or event scenes without touching the switchboard; the ceiling restores its last scene after a power cycle.

What does a stretch fabric ceiling cost per square foot in Pakistan?

The white plain backlit system is listed at Rs 1,500 per square foot, with tunable modules, curved tracks and control adding to project pricing. Full pricing logic is in our stretch fabric ceiling price guide.
