Geometric Zigzag Linear Profile Ceiling Lighting at Detailing Dungeon — Islamabad–Rawalpindi

Newon designed and installed a geometric zigzag recessed linear profile lighting scheme across the reception lounge and office ceiling of Detailing Dungeon, a car detailing showroom in the Islamabad–Rawalpindi twin cities. The installation combines 1-inch and 2-inch recessed aluminium profiles with 220V AC SMD 2835 LED strip (120 LEDs/m) running at 10W/m and 20W/m, all in 3000K warm white, converting a plain gypsum ceiling into a continuous, dot-free architectural light graphic that leads visitors from the entrance to the reception desk.

Project Brief: What Detailing Dungeon Asked For

The showroom’s lounge and office zone is the first space every customer sees, and the client wanted it to feel as premium as the finish inside the detailing bays. The requirements were clear:

• A bold ceiling statement — continuous light lines in an angular, geometric pattern, not scattered downlights
• Zero visible LED dots and no glare over the leather seating and glass partitions
• Warm 3000K ambience to complement the terracotta wall panels, dark marble and chesterfield furniture
• Installation within the finished gypsum ceiling, working around existing AC units and wall panels
• A system that is serviceable later without opening the ceiling

Design Decision: Why an Angular Zigzag Geometry

A long, narrow lounge needs a ceiling that moves the eye. Instead of parallel lines, Newon laid the recessed profiles in a site-measured zigzag geometry: long diagonal runs accelerate the perspective toward the reception desk, while short return angles break the ceiling into dynamic planes. The same linear language is repeated as vertical recessed accents in the slatted wall panels, so the ceiling and walls read as one designed system. Technical Specification

Using 220V AC strip removed low-voltage drivers from the ceiling void entirely — fewer components, fewer failure points, and simpler future maintenance for a commercial space that cannot afford downtime.

Installation Sequence

1. Site survey and laser layout of the zigzag geometry, confirming angles against the lounge axis, reception desk position, and AC unit locations.
2. Marking and routing recessed channels into the finished gypsum ceiling along the layout lines.
3. Fixing 1″ and 2″ profiles with mounting clips and end caps; mitred cuts prepared at every direction change.
4. Pulling 220V AC circuits with isolated switching, wired by qualified electricians per Pakistan Electrical Safety Code.
5. Seating the 120 LEDs/m strip into the channels and closing the diffuser, including the vertical runs in the slatted wall panels.
6. Alignment pass to verify every ceiling line and wall accent meets cleanly at the corners.

Testing and Commissioning

Each run was checked for continuous, hotspot-free output at the mitred joints, uniform 3000K colour across all channels, and correct polarity and insulation before the diffusers were closed. A soak test confirmed stable operation, followed by a client walkthrough in evening conditions — the state in which the lounge will actually be experienced.

Energy and Maintenance Notes

At 10–20W/m, the light lines draw a fraction of what conventional batten or tube coves would consume — meaningful under Pakistan’s commercial tariffs (around PKR 43.83/kWh) for a showroom lit every evening. For maintenance, individual runs are isolated at the switch and the strip or diffuser is serviced from below without cutting the ceiling.
