Commercial building facade lighting project – Union square D-12 Islamabad

Union square is a commercial plaza located at a prime location in D-12 Islamabad. For a commercial plaza, the first impression is crucial, and the exterior design plays a significant role in attracting potential customers. However, at night, the beauty of building architecture can fade into darkness without the right outdoor lighting solution.

Newon lighting was tasked with designing a lighting solution that would enhance building facade as per the exisiting design by the architect.

As shown in above picture, the contemporary building features a predominantly glass façade using a capped curtain wall system and ACP sheets installed at bottom and top of the building to provides a clean, contemporary look. The architect masterfully employed the technique of structural grids wrapped in the upper part of the building, giving the structure an expressive silhouette. These columns, break up the massiveness and ensure a visual connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape.

What was decided is to use smart linear lighting that accentuates building contours and corners. The Aluminum Composite Panels (ACP) used in the building facade here are designed with integrated gaps to house LED strip lights, creating modern, contoured architectural effects.

Inside the gap, two rows of waterproof rgb pixel led strips are installed. A Total of 140m led strip used, powered by 10 rainproof power supplies of 400w and controlled by H807sa arnet controller.

To protect the led strips and creates a uniform glow silicon profile of 80mm with collars is mounted directly into the ACP panel joints.

Total 70m silicon profile has been recessed to cover the gaps and light. This silicon cover not only protects the led light strips but also acts as a continuous lens, spreading light evenly across the entire length.

The technique used not only gives a clean, modern look to the building structural grids but also add dynamism and visual lightness to the entire construction.
