Why This Profile for Glass — Not a Standard Cove Profile
Standard LED profiles are designed to illuminate surfaces — walls, ceilings, and floors — from a distance. Glass illumination requires a different approach: the LED strip must be positioned precisely at the glass edge so that the light enters the glass at the correct angle to activate the total internal reflection (TIR) effect — the optical phenomenon that causes glass to glow uniformly across its full face when light enters at the edge. This profile’s 16.6×11.7mm cross-section positions a 10mm LED strip at exactly the right height and angle for 8mm glass, maximising the TIR glow effect across the glass surface. Using a standard cove profile for glass edge lighting produces an inconsistent result because the strip is not positioned correctly for TIR activation.

Does this work with glass thicker or thinner than 8mm?
This profile is optimised for 8mm glass — the standard thickness for display cabinet shelving, glass bar tops, and retail showcases in Pakistan. For 6mm or 10mm glass, the profile can still be used but the edge positioning may need adjustment with shim material to achieve optimal TIR effect. Contact Newon for advice on non-standard glass thicknesses.
Is the LED strip included?

Can the 3m profile be cut on site?
Yes — cut with a fine-tooth hacksaw or aluminium mitre saw at any point. Seal the cut end with the appropriate aluminium end cap to complete the installation.
What CCT is best for glass shelf and display cabinet lighting?
For jewellery and watches: 4000K neutral white with CRI≥90 for accurate colour rendering. For fashion and cosmetics retail: 4000K with CRI≥90. For residential glass cabinets and kitchen displays: 3000K warm white for a warmer, more inviting tone. Avoid 6000K cool white for display applications — it creates a clinical appearance inconsistent with premium retail and residential aesthetics.
