Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 5mm LED strip and when do I need it instead of a standard 8mm or 10mm strip?

A 5mm LED strip is required when the silicone profile, aluminium channel, or groove PCB slot is narrower than 8mm. The most common application in Pakistan is the 10×10mm silicone collar profile where only a 5mm PCB fits physically. If your profile specification states 5mm PCB width, this is the only strip that will fit — a standard 8mm strip will not enter the channel.

Why is 24V DC better than 12V DC for LED strip lighting?

24V DC produces less voltage drop over long runs than 12V DC. Voltage drop causes visible dimming at the far end of a strip run and colour shift in CCT strips. At 24V DC, this strip can run up to 10 metres from a single driver connection without visible drop. At 12V DC, the same strip would require a mid-run power injection after 5 metres. For Pakistani ceiling coves, staircase runs, and commercial groove lighting — where runs of 5–15 metres are standard — 24V is the professional specification.

Which colour temperature should I choose?

3000K for living rooms, bedrooms, and hospitality spaces. 4000K for kitchens, home offices, and retail display. 6000K for garages, workshops, and commercial task lighting. For most Pakistani homes: 3000K in living areas and bedrooms, 4000K in kitchens and study rooms. Confirm your choice before ordering — CCT cannot be changed after the roll is cut.

What driver do I need?

A 24V DC constant-voltage LED driver rated to at least 120% of your total strip wattage. Formula: total metres × 10W/m × 1.2 = minimum driver wattage. For 5m: 60W driver minimum. For 10m: 120W driver minimum. Newon’s LED waterproof power supply is available in 60W and 150W variants — contact us for your run length.

Is IP20 safe for bathroom or kitchen use?

No. IP20 provides zero moisture protection. For bathrooms, wet rooms, and kitchen splashback zones, use this strip inside a sealed IP65-rated silicone profile which provides the external moisture protection while the strip operates safely inside. Do not expose an IP20 strip directly to moisture in any form.

Can I cut this strip to a shorter length?

Yes — cut at marked 50mm intervals (every 6 LEDs) using sharp scissors. Cut only at the marked cut points. After cutting, the unused portion can be reconnected with a compatible 5mm strip connector for use in another location. Always disconnect from the driver before cutting.
